Practice Good Oral Hygiene for Whiter Teeth

Practice Good Oral Hygiene for Whiter Teeth

In today’s world, having a nice pretty smile with white teeth, seems to be of utmost importance.  Most people will take extreme, painful measures for whiter teeth.  Cosmetic dentistry can be costly, provide adequate whiteness to the teeth but often only short term.  To supplement and help maintain the pearly whites, many dollars are spent for over the counter teeth whitening applications.

Exactly how does a person go about having the whitest teeth?  Do you go to the best cosmetic dentist and have one of the costly, sometimes painful procedures?  Do you purchase a different type of over the counter teeth-whitening compound for every day of the week?  Do you apply one type of procedure in the morning and another for nighttime?  Just what is a person to do to get whiter teeth?

Well, let us see.  There is over the counter bleach you can apply to your teeth.  In addition, there are trays you can wear that promises whiter teeth.  Then there are strips that you can apply.  These teeth whitening strips can be very versatile to use.  There are strips that dissolve in a few minutes or strips that you wear over night.  Let us not forget the rinses that you can swish around your mouth then spit out.  The list of over the counter teeth whitening applications is long with much variety.  The number of different your dentist can use to help you obtain whiter teeth are vast and easily available.  There is a procedure and a price for almost anyone on most budgets.  In other words, whiter teeth can be yours for a price, however, the price might include pain and food sacrifices to obtain the best results.

Will any of these measures really give you whiter teeth?  Possibly, highly probable, if, and I did say if, your mouth is healthy to start with.  Start with the things you can do and change.  Good oral hygiene is a must for good health and essential for whiter teeth.  Eat right, drink plenty of fluids, and be sure to get enough dairy calcium.  It is not just an old wives tale, “drink your milk” you need it for your teeth.  Of course if you are unhealthy, have certain diseases or conditions, whiter teeth will be extremely hard to achieve.  Chemotherapy, certain medications like tetracycline, iron, can turn teeth dark, sometimes brown, dark yellow or almost black.  Unfortunately, there is little to be done in these instances except take care of your mouth and your health.

Good Oral Hygiene for whiter teeth can be accomplished in absence of above by practicing just that, good oral hygiene.  Far too many people are naive in thinking that daily brushing is all that is needed for good oral hygiene.  Daily brushing is the absolute minimum you can do for good oral hygiene.  Brushing after each meal, especially before you go to bed is important for oral health and whiter teeth.  Daily flossing, especially after eating is necessary.  Eating healthy, drinking your milk, and consuming fluoride treated water certainly helps with oral hygiene and please see your dentist regularly for checkups.   Other things can help too; for instance, avoid highly sugared foods, sticky foods, and using a mouthwash.  If you are somewhere you cannot brush, at the very least, rinse your mouth out with water.

Remember good oral hygiene is a precursor for whiter teeth.  It is hard to have whiter teeth without good hygiene practices.  Regardless of the other teeth whitening measures you take, whether it be the over the counter applications or cosmetic dentistry, you have to start with good teeth and gums.  Take care of your mouth; your smile is one of the first things people will notice.

Teeth: Modern Ways to Achieve the Perfect Smile

Teeth: Modern Ways to Achieve the Perfect Smile

Everyone desires to have a great smile. For a killer smile, one should have sparkling, bright, and shiny teeth.

Today, a lot of people are spending more money just to have their teeth whiter. They make use of the best teeth whitening treatments and undergo procedures to achieve the brilliant white teeth.

Teeth whitening had been an effective procedure to lighten the color of the teeth, without taking away any of the tooth surface. It will not completely whiten the whole set of teeth; it will just lighten the existing color of the teeth.

Only a few are blessed with pearly white teeth, and our teeth normally become discolored as we grow up.

Our teeth can also be stained on the outer part because of the food and drink. Coffee, tea, blackcurrant and red wine have effect on the discoloration of our teeth. Smoking is another cause of teeth discoloration. Most people may encounter staining beneath the surface which is caused by tiny cracks in the teeth or certain antibiotics that absorb the stains.

But what are these teeth whitening treatments and procedures? And are these done?

Bleaching. This is most common form of teeth whitening procedure. Your dentist will advice you if this is the best teeth whitening treatment suitable for you.

Bleaching is done by placing a gel or rubber to shield the soft tissue of your gums. Then, the whitening product will be applied on your teeth by using a special tray which shapes into your mouth like a gum shell.

The teeth whitening product usually contains carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide as the ‘active ingredients’. When these ingredients break down, the oxygen enters the enamel of your teeth thus, making the color lighter. The entire treatment can be completed in three to four weeks time.

For those who wish to undergo to this treatment, you will need at least three visits to the dentist. On your first visit, the dentist will create a mouth-guard and take a caricature or impressions of it. Once the treatment has started, it is recommended that you continue it at home. You have to regularly apply the teeth whitening product over four weeks, for at least 30 minutes at a time.

Most of the known and best teeth whitening products can be applied for up to several hours at a time. The treatment can be done even while you’re sleeping. Ideally, a good result can be attained in as little as one week.

Laser Whitening. This is also called the “power whitening”. Though expensive, a lot of people especially artists consider it as the best teeth whitening method.

During this process, a rubber dam is placed over your teeth to shield the gums, and the whitening product is then painted on your teeth. A laser will be used to stimulate the chemical. The light will help boost the chemical reaction of the bleaching product, thus the color change can be attained more rapidly.

Dentists believe that the result of laser whitening treatment is good. It can make your teeth up to six shades lighter.

Unfortunately, not everyone can get a chance to undergo laser treatment. The dentist will have to check your teeth and ensure that you are fit for the treatment. The total procedure is usually done in an hour.

The effects of this power whitening is said to last up to three years depending on the person. The dentist still advice not to smoke, eat and drink products that may cause a stain in your teeth. Others may find their teeth vulnerable to cold after the treatment. But these symptoms usually vanish within a few days.

These are just two of the famous and best teeth whitening methods available. Despite the fact that they may cost a lot, the effect is still worth it. Through these methods, you’ll surely flash everyone a perfect smile.

Keeping Children’s Teeth Healthy

Latest research has revealed lots of parents are failing to brush their little ones teeth correctly. Dr Hap Gill, himself a dentist, took time out from his schedule to talk to us. First off, he gave us his one stop guide of everything to do with teeth and he answered some of our listener questions.

When does the first tooth develop?

The age at which the first tooth appears differs from child to child. The complete set of 20 primary teeth (baby teeth) is usually present by the age of two-and-a-half years. The first permanent teeth appear at around six years of age. Myths about teething – Many things have been attributed to teething: rashes, crying, bad temper, runny noses, extra dirty nappies, etc. None of this can be proven, particularly as so many other things that might influence behaviour are happening in the child’s life at the same time. The important thing is not to use teething to explain away what might be the signs of illness.

What can you do when your child is teething?

Some teeth come through with no trouble at all; in other cases, the gum may be sore and red where the tooth is pushing its way out. A child may dribble, gnaw and chew a lot or just be fretful, but it is difficult to tell if this is really due to teething.

Top Tips

Start brushing as soon as teeth appear. Brush thoroughly twice a day (just before bed is important). Help your child brush until they are able to do it well by themselves – usually around the age of seven. Use a fluoride toothpaste and encourage your child to spit after brushing; do not rinse afterwards as this reduces the benefits of the fluoride in the toothpaste. Use a tiny smear of toothpaste for babies and a pea-sized amount for children. Young children will swallow the toothpaste; use a children’s toothpaste with reduced fluoride until they are able to spit well. Visit a dentist regularly to get your child used to the surgery. Dr Gill also told us that adult toothpastes should never be used to clean youngsters teeth under the age of six.

The minute you see a tooth you need to get some fluoride toothpaste on it. It normally happens at about six months. Use a tiny smear of toothpaste on your finger and rub it onto the tooth. The flouride strengthens the tooth. You mustn’t use an adult toothpaste before the age of six years old. The adult toothpaste has too much flouride and when babies are very young they don’t know how to spit out properly. You can overdose on flouride and it can effect the way the other teeth form and look. If they’ve got too much flouride they can come through with orange or brown on them.

So, when should we be thinking of taking our little ones to visit the dentist?

I like to see young babies the sooner the better. Sometimes they come along with Mum and they bring them along every six months. It gets them used to where they are and the noise and smell. Usually I try and have a look when they’re about two – two and a half.

What tips do you have for cleaning our tots teeth more fun and enjoyable.?

A great idea is a Musical timer it’s like a little timer that children can listen to as they brush their teeth, you can also get musical toothbrushes as well. I always try and encourage brushing with a puppet, he has a great big mouth and I brush the puppets teeth with the toothbrush and I get the children involved.

Teeth Whitening: You Know You Need Teeth Whitening in Houston When?

Teeth Whitening: You Know You Need Teeth Whitening in Houston When?

Your teeth are an important part of your appearance. Teeth whitening facilities in Houston area know about this fact. That is why they are encouraging people to whiten their teeth so that they can look their best if ever they want others to appreciate their whole appearance.

Whitening your teeth can also boost your self confidence. Ever notice those people who smile a lot even to strangers? Notice how easily they can radiate warmth just by smiling that smile. Sometimes, that smile get so contagious that you find yourself smiling and feeling better from that time on.

This is the reason why you have to perfect that smile so you can do it more. One way of perfecting it is by whitening your teeth. In today’s world where beauty products and facial makeover is rampant, you get to see a lot of beautiful people. The most common sight you will encounter is the color of their teeth.

You probably think that they are very lucky to have been born with those teeth. What you do not know is that they are the result of the whitening products and procedures that is available today.

Over-the-counter teeth whitening products are not as expensive as they used to be. This may be because of the stiff competition out in the market. With so many new products appearing almost everyday, it is no wonder that the prices are going down.

Look at yourself in the mirror. Are your teeth not as white as they used to be? Do you feel that they can still be made whiter? Are you one of those that need to have their teeth whitened?

To answer these questions, check out some of these considerations:

1. Methods for teeth whitening.

The methods used for teeth whitening are a case-to-case basis. For every individual, there is a method that will suit their different needs.

You can opt for veneers instead of bleaching or teeth whitening. The best thing to do is to consult your dentist first about what should be done. Your dentist will be able to tell you what will be perfect for your needs.

2. Smokers and caffeine-addict.

If you are one of those who like to take caffeinated drinks, then you are very ideal for teeth whitening. This is the same for persons who smoke.
The ingredients in caffeinated drinks can dull your teeth if you are a drinker for a long time. Tar and nicotine can also discolor teeth easily.

By having your teeth whitened or continuously using whitening toothpaste, you can minimize the effects that these things will bring to your teeth. Prolonged and regular use will definitely help fight off quick discoloration of your teeth.

3. Sensitive teeth and gums.

Your teeth and gums might not be able to tolerate the chemical contents of whitening products. If you think you have sensitive teeth, it is best to delay using whitening products and ask your dentist first.

If you are still serious about having that teeth whitened, then you better get one of those professional treatments. Do not take the risk of trying out products that you can buy over the counter.

Once you have considered all these things, then you will know if you are ready for that teeth whitening procedure in Houston. When it comes to your well being, it is always better to be cautious than be sorry in the end.

Teeth Whitening: Facts on Opalescence Teeth Whitening System

Teeth Whitening: Facts on Opalescence Teeth Whitening System

People like their pearly whites to be both pearly and white. It sounds lame but it is true. People love to take care of their teeth. One might even say that people are particularly vain concerning their teeth. This is because when meeting people, the teeth are definitely the first thing to get noticed. We smile in order to show people a glimpse of our soul. There are people who depend on their smiles for their living. This is the reason behind the success of such products as the Opalescence teeth whitening system.

The Opalescence teeth whitening system lets people take the system home and do the whitening themselves. This might seem like unnecessary work for some people, but for others, it means convenience. People today do not have the time to go to the dentist for teeth whitening. Some just choose to get a tan instead of having their teeth whitened. This is the reason why the Opalescence teeth whitening system is so sought after. Convenience is one of the things that people look for today.

How does the Opalescence teeth whitening system work? First of all, you have to know that the Opalescence teeth whitening system is a professional-grade bleaching system. This means that it can whiten your teeth faster than other over the counter teeth whitening systems. This is because of the fact that most over the counter teeth whitening systems contain only about 3 to 10 percent hydrogen peroxide. However, the Opalescence teeth whitening system has a 38 percent concentration of hydrogen peroxide.

While most teeth whitening systems today require the use of a bleaching light in order to “activate” the product, the Opalescence teeth whitening system is the first product which lists the use of the light as “optional”. People like this because it is often the case that the cost of the bleaching light is undeniably higher than the cost of the actual product. Another interesting fact about this is that lately, many dentists are finding out that the “studies” regarding the use of bleaching lights rarely do prove that the light is needed to activate the hydrogen peroxide.

Although you can take the Opalescence teeth whitening system home, it is still advisable that you get a professional to whiten your teeth. This is because the Opalescence teeth whitening system works best when in the hands of a professional. About 90 minutes is required from preparation to the actual procedure. Think of it: just one and a half hours for you to have whiter teeth!

Besides giving you whiter teeth, the opalescence teeth whitening system also gives you other benefits. While some teeth bleaching systems may give you sensitive teeth and thus, forever deny you the pleasure of eating ice cream, the opalescence teeth whitening system actually minimizes sensitivity. This means that you do not have to sacrifice the pleasure of eating certain foods in order to have a great smile.

Another complaint that people have with common bleaching agents is the fact that these often cause teeth to become vulnerable to cavities. However, the opalescence teeth whitening system actually strengthens the enamel, making it harder and decreases the likelihood of cavities.

The opalescence teeth whitening system can give great benefits to whoever uses the product. You get whiter teeth in a way that’s convenient and painless. So what are you waiting for?

Do Teeth Whitening Toothpastes Work?

Do Teeth Whitening Toothpastes Work?

It’s a problem that nearly everyone has to deal with at some point: discolored teeth.

If you ever drink coffee, tea, or wine, there is a good chance your teeth are a lot closer to yellow or even brown than white. Smoking will also lead to yellow teeth. And even if you do avoid common causes of tooth discoloration, you still aren’t immune. The enamel on teeth gets slightly weaker over time, allowing the teeth to slowly change color.

How to Properly Brush Your Teeth

How to Properly Brush Your Teeth

Brushing your teeth is very important and can often go unlooked by many people. You take a shower in the morning, get dressed, maybe put on makeup, eat breakfast and then head out the door. Some people only brush at night before they go to bed. However, it is important to brush three times a day and at the very least morning and night. Brushing your teeth is not just for making them more white and shiny. It is one of the biggest things we can do to improve our oral health and hygiene. Here are some proper techniques for brushing your teeth.

Brushing your teeth will prevent bad breath, tarter, plaque buildup, gingivitis, and periodontal diseases. That is why it is so important to follow these techniques for brushing teeth. You can start teaching these techniques to your kids at an early age or correct the way you have been brushing as an adult. You may even see that by following these guidelines you will have fresher smelling breath or fewer cavities.

The first step is choosing the right kind of toothbrush. Kids should have soft bristled toothbrushes or a kid friendly brush that is not too big to fit in their mouths. Some people prefer to get a hard bristle brush, but using that can cause gum recession or be painful while brushing. Medium bristle brushes are good because they are not too soft yet not too hard. Some people prefer electric tooth brushes over a more traditional brush. Smaller headed brushes are good because they can fit in the small places in your mouth and around your teeth.

Once you have your tooth brush, you should prepare it for brushing your teeth. If you floss, this should be done before you brush. To prepare, you should get the toothbrush bristles wet and then squeeze a thin even layer of paste across the bristles. You should use a tooth paste that is right for your needs. Some people need cavity protection while others need a paste for sensitive teeth. You can also find tooth paste that is made for whitening your teeth or fighting tartar and gingivitis.

There are motion techniques that you should use while you are brushing. The front and back and of your teeth should be brushed in a back and forth motion. The inside back teeth, such as your molars, should be brushed in a circular motion. It is very important to brush the back molars because it is an area with a lot of bacteria. Brushing along the gum line will prevent gingivitis and gum disease and should not be forgotten. You can also brush your tongue to remove bacteria that may be causing you to have bad breath.  You should brush for one to two minutes, or about 30 seconds per area of the mouth.

Once you have brushed, you can spit out the excess tooth paste. You should avoid swallowing tooth paste because it can cause a stomach ache. For young kids, this may be hard at first so you can use a kid friendly paste that will not hurt their stomachs if they accidently swallow it. Rinse out your mouth with water to remove the paste. You can follow up with mouth wash, but it is not recommended to use mouth wash every day as it can cause your gums to recede.

Choosing the Right Toothbrush for your Teeth

Choosing the Right Toothbrush for your Teeth

How long did it actually take you to choose your last toothbrush? Did you choose it because it was the one recommended by your dentist in Costa Mesa or did you get it simply because you liked the color? We sure do hope it was the first one because color alone is not a logical reason when it comes to choosing a toothbrush.

But the sad fact is many people still fall prey to advertising gimmicks by toothbrush manufacturers causing them to go for design and color instead of ease of use. Similarly, many falls on the misconception that electric toothbrush is better than ordinary toothbrush. However, electric or not, both toothbrushes are designed to do one thing—to clean the teeth, although electric toothbrushes do the job much simpler.

So, how should you choose your toothbrush?

By and large, your dentist in Costa Mesa would recommend that you choose a toothbrush that has an ADA seal on the box. But aside from that, here are some tips for you on finding the best toothbrush for your teeth:

• Get a soft bristled toothbrush as they are more flexible than hard bristled brush. A soft toothbrush also causes minimal damage on the gums.

• Make sure the handle fits your hands comfortably.

• Choose a toothbrush that has a small head to make cleaning difficult areas much easier.

• Choose an easy-to-use brush, whether it is a powered or manual toothbrush

Now that you’ve carefully chosen the toothbrush best for your teeth, brushing would be fun and encouraging. But a good brush is not enough to keep your teeth and mouth healthy. Here’s how to get the most out of your brushing:

• Brush at least two times a day or every after meal.

• Give enough time in brushing and flossing, ideally three minutes.

• Use a gentle motion when brushing.

• Don’t brush just the teeth; brush the tongue as well to scuff off bacteria.

• Replace your toothbrush every three months.

If you’re having trouble with your brushing routine or needs additional help in brushing, don’t hesitate to ask your dentist in Costa Mesa and he will be more than willing to show you the proper method of brushing. And of course, don’t just rely on your toothbrush to keep your teeth and mouth healthy. Flossing also helps in getting rid of food debris in hard to reach areas of the teeth. And don’t forget to see your dentist regularly for checkup.

Teeth Whitening Toothpaste – Missing Teeth – The Options Available To Replace Them

Teeth Whitening Toothpaste – Missing Teeth – The Options Available To Replace Them

Do you want a brighter whiter smile?. click here now >> for a great teeth whitening solution >>

For most people the day will eventually come when a dentist tells you that a tooth or worse still several teeth are beyond saving and need to be extracted. After the initial shock this will usually lead to the realization that you are in fact getting old! To make matters worse missing teeth can cause many problems. Some are obvious such as:

your appearance when you smile
lisping when saying certain sounds
reduced chewing efficiency leading to poor digestion
loss of support for your facial muscles making you look older than you are.

There are other more subtle changes that can occur when teeth are missing:

increased pressure on the remaining teeth when chewing making them more prone to fracturing
tilting of teeth around the missing teeth
over-eruption of teeth opposing the missing teeth
a change in the bite resulting in problems with the jaw joint (TMJ)

To ensure these problems do not occur dentists always advise replacing missing teeth. This can be carried out in three ways; dentures bridges or implants.

Dentures

This treatment option is the most basic and the least invasive of the three. It is also usually the cheapest option. The biggest drawback is that the denture is not fixed and consequently there will be some movement especially when eating. It will also need to be removed to be cleaned. The base of the denture can be made in either acrylic or metal (usually a cobalt-chromium alloy). The metal denture is much stronger and can be supported by remaining natural teeth (if present) so that it is better fitting and more secure. The teeth can be made from acrylic or porcelain. It usually takes several appointments as the denture is made in stages to ensure it is the best possible fit. The end result can look great but wearing dentures will not make you feel young again.

Bridges

This treatment option involves preparing teeth adjacent to the missing tooth/teeth so that a false tooth/teeth can be cemented or bonded to them. The bridge is made from porcelain and may have a metal sub-structure. There are different types of bridges a dentist can use but a conventional bridge will involve preparing the adjacent teeth in a similar fashion to crowns. A temporary bridge is then cemented into place will the final restoration is constructed in a dental laboratory. The finished bridge is then cemented or bonded (depending on the type of porcelain used) into place permanently. The drawback to this option is the amount of tooth that has to be sacrificed on the adjacent teeth. This is made worse if the adjacent teeth are healthy and have no fillings. By preparing these adjacent teeth their long term prognosis is reduced and they may end up needing further work in the future. In certain circumstances and providing only one tooth is missing a different type of bridge can be used to try to minimize the preparation needed on adjacent teeth. This still uses porcelain to replace the missing tooth but has metal wings that stick to only the backs of the adjacent teeth. This means that only the backs of the adjacent teeth need to be prepared rather than the complete tooth.

Implant-retained restorations

A dental implant is artificial root usually conical or cylindrical in shape made from medical-grade titanium. It is placed in the jawbone with which it integrates with over time resulting in a very strong and secure base. Attachments known as abutments can then be connected to the implant on top of which crowns and bridges can be placed to give a fixed restoration (dentures can also be connect to implant abutments to help them become more stable but the denture is still removable ). Adjacent teeth do not need to be drilled and compared to the other treatment options for missing teeth this is the strongest and longest lasting. The only drawback is that it does take longer to get to the final result. Each case needs to be evaluated by an implant surgeon but it may take between two and six months after a tooth is removed before the final restoration is fitted. However once fitted the restoration will feel as close to a natural tooth as possible. In fact many patients cannot feel any difference between an implant-retained crown and their natural tooth. It is because of this and the fact that implant treatment has such a high success rate that it has become the preferred treatment option for replacing missing teeth.

I hope this article helps in giving information to why missing teeth should be replaced and how this can be achieved.
