Great deal for oral hygiene

This toothbrush, and the refills, are one of my best purchases, and I’m a shopper!

Best toothbrush head ever

I did not believe people that this was the best toothbrush head ever, but I tried it myself after two different people recommended it to me. Wow, this toothbrush brush head is superior to my old Sonicare and for that matter any other Oral-B toothbrush head I tried.

I have never been a regular teeth flosser and am guilty of doing so just a few times a month. However, with the FlossAction brushhead, my dentist thinks I floss. I had to confess that it was the FlossAction toothbrush head and not difficult to use floss that was doing the trick.

I refuse to use a manual toothbrush anymore. When I go on vacation or for an overnight stay, I take my Oral-B and FlossAction toothbrush head with me. It is that good!

great for early brushers

I ordered three of these as a way to bridge between and normal toothbrush and a normal powered toothbrush, this one is a disposable battery type brush. Its much quieter, and thus less powerful, that a Braun powered brush and this, and the various styles it comes in, made it tolerable to my child who needs help with brushing his teeth. Note that toothpaste needs to be more or less pressed into the brushes since it will fling it off off it is layered on like a normal brush. We bought the three pack of these and hopefully when they are all worn out we can move up to one with a replaceable head. We have been using it for about two weeks with no sign of slowing down.

An Oral Hygiene Lesson On Bad Breath

An Oral Hygiene Lesson On Bad Breath

Bad breath is a health problem that occur in many of us, due to many reasons and has a specific characteristic that causes such a disturbing smell. But what causes bad breath? On the tongue there is a bio film which contains anaerobic bacteria. The proteins from the food we eat are decomposed by these bacteria producing disturbing gases such as hydrogen sulfide.

Most of us have bad breath in the morning, but that issue can be prevented by proper oral hygiene. But proper oral hygiene does not always remove these odors, when it is caused by other reasons, like some general diseases. You have to run some tests in order to find out what causes the bad breath and then you will have to treat it in consequence. If you can follow some simple steps you can prevent or reduce the bad breath in your mouth. So here they are:

1. Oral hygiene
We must keep in mind that every time we eat we are exposed to the bacteria in our mouth. After we eat we have to brush our teeth or at least gargle with warm water. The brushing though is essential and at least twice a day: in the morning ( for beauty, as it is said ) and in the evening ( for the health ).

2. How do we brush our teeth?
You do not have to brush your teeth after every meal: it can damage the enamel. You just have to brush normally, paying attention to the direction of brushing You should brush your upper teeth in a downward direction and the lower ones in the upward direction, followed by the brushing of the crown of the teeth ( In anterior and posterior direction ). This must be applied to both inner and outer surfaces, as well as to upper and lower set of teeth. You should choose a dental brush which has smooth but hard enough bristles in order to clean effectively the food remains between the teeth.

3. Cleaning of our tongue
The tongue can be cleaned with a tongue cleaner. In the morning we can see a white or yellowish layer on the tongue and it can be removed with tongue cleaner but ensure that you do it gently, not to hurt the taste buds.

4. Tooth picks
We can use the tooth pick after every meal, especially after eating meat or fish. It is a small strip of plastic or wood with pointed ends and we can successfully use it to remove food remains between the teeth, but carefully, not to hurt the gums.

5. Gargling
Gargling is very effective after every meal, with warm water. You can find in all stores a variety of mouth wash, with different flavors or you can make your own mouth wash from water and common salt. Both help you get rid of the bad breath.

6. Food can influence our breath
What we eat is representative for our bad breath. Some food, like meat, milk, eggs contain proteins that in reaction with the bacteria from the tongue can produce bad breath. Other food items have themselves an unpleasant smell and, by eating them, we can have disturbing breath when speaking to other people. If we do not clean properly our teeth in between the gaps, the food remains will soon get an unpleasant odor. Regular meals and proper cleaning can prevent bad breath.

7. Proper hydration with water
The quantity of water that we drink also influences bad breath. But how do we relate these things? According to the quantity of water consumed depends on the saliva secretion. If the quantity of saliva is enough to keep the mouth moist, the bacteria will be reduced. If we do not drink enough water, the saliva will not be enough, causing the dryness of the mouth proper to the development of bacteria who gives us the bad breath.

8. Natural or artificial mouth fresheners?
We can choose from a large variety of mouth fresheners, both artificial and natural. It is better that you use some natural mouth fresheners because they are good for your general health and bad breath ( citrus fruits, apples, parsley ). If you do not have any natural mouth refreshments there are always the chewing gums and artificial mouth washes, which you can find in every store, but use them carefully because an intensive use of chewing gum can lead to other health complications.

If these simple tips do not work, you should take serious action in order to find out what causes your bad breath and how you can rid it. A simple visit to the doctor can clarify the alternative reasons that can cause bad breath as there are diseases which can have as a symptom bad breath ( diseases like diabetes, fevers, gastric disorders, liver diseases ). So, with simple bad breath can open doors to other health problems you might have and solve them as soon as possible. Of course, removing the cause will lead to the removal of this unpleasant effect.

If the cause of bad breath is not that serious and is a result of an infection you can treat it with the products of modern medicine such as antibiotics, anti viral, anti fungal drugs, steroids ( if the cause is a chronic or auto immune inflammatory conditions ), or even tablets that stimulate the production of the saliva.

A visit to your dentist twice a year can prevent also and cure any dental and mouth related problems. The dentist can clean your teeth by removing the tartar and the dental plaques; he will fill in the caries, which are one of the main factors that causes bad breath, with synthetic materials; eventually he will recommend a treatment for any pulp cavity problems caused by caries. If the tooth is seriously affected by the caries, it is better to extract it and replace it with a dental implant. A more serious problem is the tonsillitis, a disease that can cause bad breath by the discharges and release of pasty amalgam of materials from the caves of tonsils. This disease can be stopped through tonsillectomy ( the removal of tonsils ).

Sometimes nature gives us all that we need to cure ourselves. Homeopathy is an alternative way towards our health and in many times it may be the most effective. Homeopathy medicines are carefully prescribed, according to every individual separately; it takes in consideration any physical, intellectual, affective and social aspect of the diseased individual and the doctors can prescribe the exact dose in suitable potency. For the bad breath there are no more than 140 homeopathic medicines, We found in the homeopathic medical repertory by Dr. Robin Murphy. We mention here some of those medicines: pulsatilla, sulfur, nux vomica, ars alb, silicea, kali bich, nitric acid and a homeopathic cures for gargling after diluting in water ( tinctures like cinnamon, Q menthol, Q zingiber ).

I was skeptical sonic toothbrush. My son loves his. When I asked my dentist, said he was getting used to get vibrations some “work, but otherwise it feels more like a cleaning brush. I tried this because the neck is thin, the charger and the little tips that vibration was not as strong as quite expensive. There are two settings. I tried, I use it twice a day, and I love him very much!

Great Toothbrush But May Last Only a Year

This is the 2nd one that I had purchased online. The first one was purchased a year ago and it just stopped working. I bought another one and it looks great and does a good job cleaning your teeth. It leaves you with that “just came from the dentist’s office teeth cleaning feeling.”

I hope this one lasts longer that a year.

I would give the product 5 stars if I knew it would last more than a year.

I love this toothbrush!

For years my dentist has been pushing me to use an electric toothbrush. I have tried at least 3 different ones over the years and have not liked or stuck with any of them. This one I can! It is fabulous! Finally an electric toothbrush that fits a woman’s hand, unlike all of those other big clunkers that I came to hate. I originally got the the battery operated version last summer and have been using one until now I have this plug in one for home. I will still use the battery operated ones for travel. My dentist is happy and I am happy, at last.

light weight works great

I really like this, it’s the sonic type my dentist recommended, but it’s small and light so it’s easier for me to travel with it. Thank heavens the charger is small — my previous one was bigger than the toothbrush itself.

Works great.

I was a little skeptical at first, and didn’t want to spend the money. But my first check up after getting the Oral-B Pulsonic went well. My dentist commented that she could tell I was doing something different. Following the directions and using as suggested, has shown results for me.

Perfect Little Toothbrush

I absolutely love this thing. My previous power toothbrush was a higher end model from Oral B that I bought years ago. That one was heavy and unwieldy and nothing like this little powerhouse. The toothbrush is very light and easy to use. The motor on it is strong and the vibrations kick just right.

I’ve read complaints about the size of the brush head but it is a non issue to me, it seems pretty standard for a toothbrush.

The pricing on this is perfect for someone who wants to be serious about oral health care but doesn’t want to spend a fortune on a fancy brush that takes up half the counter-top.

Love the Pulsonic

I purchased the Oral-B Pulsonic for my wife, who’s former high end rotary Oral-B toothbrush broke a few weeks ago. Having tried multiple rotary style brushes and battery-operated pulse brushes, I was a bit wary on the switch to a Sonic/pulse brush since she was quite fond of her former brush.

Summary (per the wife)

- Size…perfect for smaller hands/mouths, but very useful for getting to those hard to reach areas. Better portability; however, because of the small diameter of the base, it doesn’t stand upright that well (but too big to fit in any toothbrush holder slots)
- Charging Base…takes up a very small footprint on sink
- Price…much lower than many newer Oral-B/Sonic-care brushes
- Performance…cleans extremely well, takes a week or so to get used to it.

I did try it out for a day or so, too (don’t tell the wifey!!!) and was quite pleased by the pulsing sensation and the way it made my teeth feel/look. I liked it so much, that I decided to get one for mom, too!!!

Great Replacement!

This replacement handle replaced my old one that just stopped working. I recharged it and my electric toothbrush is ready to clean my teeth again. As others have mentioned, there is no light on this handle, but there is a 2 minute timer with a easy on and off push button as my old toothbrush had.

xcellent Product

This is an excellent product. It function as well or better than the original purchased one. I would recommend this item as a replacement for the original without hesitation. Anyone needing to replace their original one would’t go wrong selecting this as a replacement.

Reliable Replacement at lowest price

Except for the LED charging light, this power handle seems identical to the 10 year old item it replaces. It arrived 3 days ahead of scheduled delivery and works perfectly. A real cost saver if you already have a functional charger and brush(es).

Perfect replacement!

My old Braun electric toothbrush handle was no longer able to be recharged, and this toothbrush handle is the perfect replacement. I have a Braun toothbrush model which is no longer made, so this saved me from buying a whole new toothbrush kit. It works perfectly and is just what I needed. As others have mentioned, it lacks the light on the front which is lit when it is plugged in, but that is a very minor thing, in my opinion. Highly recommended! Very prompt shipping.

Braun Oral B Toothbrush

My electric toothbrush ceased to operate so thus began the quest for a new one. I was very excited to see that I only needed to replace the toothbrush and not the whole unit (charger). The whole process was simple and quick. My toothbrush arrived when expected. Great experience.

The Repercussions of Hiv in Oral Health

The Repercussions of Hiv in Oral Health

People with HIV and AIDS have several oral problems because their immune system is weakened. Their body is not capable of fighting off infection and any changes in the status of the immunity are reflected in their oral health. The mouth experiences dryness, enlargement of the lymph nodes which is referred as lymphadenopathy, thrush or oral candiasis, hairy leukoplakia coupled with viral infection or Epstein-Barr virus, Kaposi’s sarcoma, periodontal disease, swelling of the salivary glands, viral sores and warts and canker sores.

Occurrence of these dental problems signifies a change in the strength of immune system. So, it is important to watch out for these oral problems and consult your dentist or physician immediately. Oral health care such as regular dental visits, frequent brushing and flossing and mouth wash with fluoride are very necessary for HIV-infected persons because the dental problems they are having is most likely associated with HIV and also signify any changes in the level of strength of their immune system.

Dryness of the mouth is brought about by medicines taken by the HIV patient. With dry mouth the patient becomes more prone to gingivitis, oral yeast infection, tooth decay and gum disease. These oral problems occur when the mouth has less saliva to cleanse sugar, bacteria, food and toxins that the bacteria produced. Acids caused by bacteria in the mouth cause tooth decay. A gel or saliva substitute will be prescribed by the doctor to fight thrush and tooth decay.

For children infected with HIV and AIDS, the dentist will treat this with medicated mouth wash. These thick and medicated mouth rinses contain sugar to make them sweet and taste good for children. If your child takes these kinds of mouth rinses, you should always make sure that their mouths are rinsed with water to avoid tooth problems. For children with HIV and tooth decay, this situation will give them pain, chewing difficulty, pain, infection, underweight and undernourishment. If tooth decay is present, the children will have a hard time chewing their food because if the pain and may affect his mood to eat and be able to obtain the proper nutrition his or her body needs.

Some oral problems are associated with the presence of HIV and therefore, when visiting your dentist, you should tell them your medical condition, the status of your immunity and the drugs that you are currently taking so that they can give the proper medication. Without this information, the teeth expert may administer dental drugs and medication which may not be effective to combat these mouth problems.

HIV or AIDS patients do not see the need for antibiotics before any main dental treatment. Antibiotics will only be used if there is the presence of neutropenia, which means low blood count. An antibiotic mouth wash may be prescribed before and after surgical treatment. Low red blood cell count is common to people with HIV because of the antiretroviral drug therapy. The dentist should be aware of these health conditions and the patient must inform them of the result of their blood test to ensure that the proper medication is given to them.

Learn About Teeth Whitening Oral Gel

Learn About Teeth Whitening Oral Gel

Most dentists recommend different kinds of teeth whitening treatments to their patients who are having problems with the appearance particularly the color of their teeth. They will discuss with you the options for teeth whitening treatments so you could understand each completely. You will also be able to determine which type of teeth whitening treatment is best for you.

Of course he will first evaluate and assess your condition by performing a check up. He will examine your whole mouth to know if you are qualified to undergo a teeth whitening treatment. He could also suggest which type of teeth whitening treatment would be best for the condition or color of your teeth. It would be better if you will first set your budget for the treatment so you could easily make the right decision about the kind of treatment to use. As you know, different kinds of teeth whitening treatments also come in different prices.

Some of the major options that the dentist will usually recommend are the in-office teeth whitening treatment and the teeth whitening home kits. If you have the means and you are not very concerned about the amount of money that you will have to pay for the treatment as long as you will get the best possible results, you should go for the in-office teeth whitening treatment. This treatment is expensive but you will be very satisfied with the results. And it will only take some of your precious time because all you need is one hour and you can say hello to a new you. Your teeth will become whiter instantly and some people have claimed that their teeth became 6-8 shades lighter.

For those who can’t afford the expensive teeth whitening treatment, you could opt for the home kits that you can get from your own dentist or you could just purchase one from your favorite drugstore. These kits come with complete accessories like teeth whitening gel and tray so you can use it immediately and easily. One good thing about these products is that you can bring them anywhere you go because they are compact and very convenient to use.

One thing you could notice about in-office teeth whitening treatment and home kits is that they both use gel that is the main thing responsible for the whitening effect. The gel is made from hydrogen peroxide which is a good bleaching agent for your teeth. With in-office treatment, the use of a special laser light is involved. This could make the gel produce better results. The light will activate the gel and will enhance the bleaching effect. The gel will be applied onto your teeth and will stay there for a few minutes up to one hour.

With teeth whitening home kits, they also use gel that also contains hydrogen peroxide. The kit comes with a tray that will hold the gel onto your teeth. Kits from dentists will perfectly fit your teeth so your mouth will be safe from contact with the gel thus reducing the risk of irritation. Those kits that you could buy from the stores have trays that are made based on a standard size so you can’t really be sure that they will fit your teeth and mouth. Most of these products recommend that you will let the gel stay on your teeth overnight to get better and faster results. The gels in these kits have lower concentration of hydrogen peroxide than the gel used in in-office teeth whitening treatment so they will reduce the risk of having teeth sensitivity.

A bright smile is closely related to having bright teeth, so how do you improve the coloration of your teeth? Visit online resources for teeth whitening gel and whitening teeth online.

Mouthwash improving oral hygiene?

Mouthwash improving oral hygiene?

Report: Mouthwash improving oral hygiene?

When the person you’re talking to decides to chew on some gum or mints and offers you some, too, does she think her breath smells bad — or is she hinting yours does?

It is a vexing and often taboo topic. The market offers some solutions with mouthwashes offering new combinations of ingredients.

However, what’s the truth about mouthwashes? Is the alcohol content in mouthwashes a cause for grave concern?

It is true that some mouthwashes will dry the mouth and that can eventually lead to even more bad breath, but consider this: a mouthwash, even if it has alcohol content, stays in the mouth for just about 5 seconds before being spit out. Compare this with the pints of alcohol consumed by people everyday who still live on for many years. Are the mouthwash health concerns then, really so valid?

Should one use mouthwash? And if yes then which one?

Mouthwashes come in many varieties. From simple breath fresheners to products that can really influence oral health—a

variety of mouthwashes are available in the market.

Mouthwashes fall into two basic categories: cosmetic and therapeutic.

The cosmetic rinses you find in the supermarket are usually

formulated to temporarily freshen breath. Although they can aid in removing food particles embedded in teeth, their primary purpose is to mask mouth odour.

How and when to use a mouthwash

• Only use if and as prescribed;

• Only use specific products which have been recommended by the doctor;

• Too much use is discouraged (be careful about how much you are using and how many times in a day);

• Discontinue after the specific problem is resolved;

• Use only under supervision of a doctor;

• Listerine is high in alcohol therefore its use tends to dry the mouth. If used long term it would aggravate the problem of bad breath;

• Use after brushing, last thing at night, if you want a fresh breath at waking, in the morning;

• Do not make the use of mouthwash a habit.

Types of mouth rinses

The fluoride mouth-rinses: Non-prescription therapeutic mouth rinses often contain fluoride for decay prevention or active ingredients to reduce dental plaque, tooth sensitivity or gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease. Most fluoride mouth rinses on the market contain sodium fluoride, which provides extra protection against dental decay.

Fluoride containing mouth rinses help to prevent dental decay. They may be recommended for:

• Children having orthodontic treatment,

• Children with high caries risk. A.M.-P.M. Junior (Elder) mouthwash contains 0.03% Triclosan and 0.05% Sodium Fluoride,

• Patients suffering from dry mouth specially—seniors;

• Patients who have undergone radiation therapy.

However, children who can’t spit out mouthwashes should never be given the mouthwash as fluoride ingestion is harmful.

Chlorhexidine mouthwash: Chlorhexidine is an active ingredient in some mouthwashes that has an antimicrobial effect and may prevent gingivitis. However, long-term use of chlorhexidine may stain teeth, alter taste sensation and cause recurrent ulceration of the oral tissues.

• Chlorhexidine mouthwash has an unpleasant taste,

• It alters taste sensation,

• Produces brown stains on teeth, which are very difficult to remove. This can also affect the mucous membranes and tongue and may be related to the precipitation of chromogenic dietary factors onto the teeth and mucous membranes. Due to this reason, it is important for patients using Chlorhexidine mouthwash to avoid the intake of tea, coffee and red wine during the duration of its use.

Anti-microbial mouthwash: an antibiotic mouthwash can be used after brushing and flossing to reduce bacteria in the mouth.

Desensitising mouth rinses: contain active ingredients such as potassium nitrate to reduce tooth sensitivity.

Benzydamine mouthwash: may be helpful as a local anaesthetic and can ease the discomfort caused by inflammation of the mouth lining resulting from chemotherapy.

For more information about which mouthwash is right for you it is best to seek a dentist’s advice.

Antiplaque or anti-microbial mouthwash: Used to inhibit bacterial plaque formation and prevent or resolve chronic gingivitis. They can affect only supra gingival plaque. So they have no role in the treatment of existing periodontal disease, since they cannot either reach the sub gingival environment or penetrate thick layers of established plaque. In these situations, they are used after supra and sub gingival scaling has been done, rendering the tooth surfaces clean, in order to maintain this situation for a short period when the soreness of the gingiva may prevent effective mechanical plaque control.

When to use antiplaque mouthwashes

Antiplaque mouthwashes are used to replace mechanical tooth brushing when this is not possible in the following situations:

• In cases of acute oral mucosal and gingival infections,

• After periodontal or oral surgery and during the healing period,

• After cosmetic jaw surgery or intermaxillary fixation used to treat jaw fractures,

• For mentally and physically handicapped patients,

• As an adjunct to normal mechanical brushing in situations where this may be compromised by discomfort or inadequacies.

Types of antiplaque mouthwashes

Mouth washes containing essential oils: Listerine (Parke Davis), one of the oldest mouth washes available, is an essential oil/phenolic mouth wash. It has been shown to have moderate plaque inhibitory effect and some anti-gingivitis effect. Its lack of profound plaque inhibitory effect is because it has poor oral retention.

• Oxygenating agents like Hydrogen peroxide, buffered Sodium peroxyborate and Peroxy carbonate in mouth washes have a beneficial effect on acute ulcerative gingivitis, probably by inhibiting anaerobic bacteria. However mouthwashes containing hydrogen peroxide are not recommended now based on the fact that they produce nascent oxygen and thus free radicals that can be carcinogenic.

• Chlorhexidine molecule gets absorbed onto the oral surfaces and gets released at bactericidal level over prolonged periods. Due to this process, Chlorhexidine has antiplaque properties unsurpassed by other agents.

Different brands of Chlorhexidine available in the market are Rexidin (Warren), Clohex (Group) and A.M.-P.M (Elder).

Povidone Iodine

Povidone Iodine appears to have no significant plaque inhibitory activity when used as 1% mouthwash and the absorption of significant levels of iodine through the oral mucosal may make this compound unacceptable for prolonged use in the oral cavity. It could cause problem of iodine sensitivity in sensitised individuals.

Piodin (Glaxo Wellcome), Povidine Gargle (Stadmed) are povidone iodine mouth washes available in the market.

Risks from alcohol in mouthwash

Most mouthwashes contain pharmaceutical grade alcohol, as a preservative and as a semi-active ingredient. Significant amounts of alcohol contained in many mouthwashes can lead to certain disadvantages. Care should be taken that they are not accidentally swallowed, especially by children, to avoid toxicity. Small children should not be advised mouth washes, because they are not able to spit it out properly. More over, most children have good gingival health.

Because of known links between alcohol consumption plus tobacco smoking and oral and pharyngeal cancer, it has been suggested that the frequent use of alcohol containing mouth washes might increase the incidence of this form of cancer.

Lastly, alcohol-containing mouthwashes have been shown to reduce the hardness of composite and hybrid resin restorations.

Lately, there have been fears of mouthwashes being the cause of oral cancer. The alcohol content in mouthwashes have been linked to increased risk of developing of cancers of the mouth. When the mouthwash is swished around in the mouth, some of its carcinogenic content can remain in the mouth, accumulate in oral cavity and cause oral cancer, reports point out.

“Top-selling mouthwashes can cause oral cancer and should be pulled from supermarket shelves immediately”

Australia’s leading independent experts have issued this strong warning after investigating latest scientific evidence linking alcohol-containing mouthwashes to the deadly disease.

Their review, published in the Dental Journal of Australia, concludes there is now “sufficient evidence” that “alcohol-containing mouthwashes contribute to the increased risk of development of oral cancer”.

The ethanol in mouthwash is thought to allow cancer-causing substances to permeate the lining of the mouth more easily and cause harm.

Acetaldehyde, a toxic by-product of alcohol that may accumulate in the oral cavity when swished around the mouth, is also believed to be carcinogenic.

Listerine, the nation’s biggest-selling mouthwash and a brand endorsed by the Australian Dental Association (ADA), contains as much as 26 per cent alcohol.

A Brazilian study has also found regular mouthwash use is associated with oral cancer regardless of alcohol or tobacco consumption. They said the role of ethanol in causing DNA damage needed to be explored further. A review in the Journal of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology last year said it would be “prudent, precautionary public-health policy to generally refrain from using ethanol in (mouthwash) products” because of  “doubts about the safety of alcohol-containing oral products”.

In another study, researchers from the Bahrain Ministry of Health reviewed results from five studies with participants who were randomly given mouthwashes or placebo; 293 people in Thailand, the U.S, the Netherlands, Spain, and Israel took part.

According to background information provided by the researchers, halitosis is widespread around the world: Up to half of people in the U.S. say they have bad breath, 50-60% of people in France complain of it, and 24% of Japanese say it’s a problem.

The participants in the data review were adults over 18 years old who did not have any serious chronic gum or mouth diseases or other conditions such as diabetes, which can bring on bad breath.

The studies were two, four, or six weeks long.

What researchers found when they compared data is that the type of mouthwash can make a difference in either masking or eliminating bad breath.

“We found that antibacterial mouth rinses, as well as those containing chemicals that neutralise odours, are actually very good at controlling bad breath,” the study researcher said.

Researchers also found:

Mouthwash containing antibacterial ingredients such as chlorhexidine and cetylpyridinium did the job of getting rid of bad breath better than a placebo. This is likely due to decreasing the amount of bacteria in the mouth responsible for bad breath.

Mouthwash with chlorine dioxide and zinc helped to wipe out bad smells by neutralising them.

Bad breath is caused by bacteria and traces of food that collect in the back of and creases of the tongue. Researchers write that these particles and bacteria then “break down into volatile sulphur compounds,” which are responsible for the smell.

Consumer VOICE was founded by teachers and students at the University of Delhi in the beginning of the academic year 1983-84. Till mid 1986, Consumer VOICE functioned as an unregistered voluntary consumer association.

On 28 June 1986, it was registered as a Public Charitable Trust with noted jurist, Justice (retd.) V.M. Tarkunde and Prof. P.K. Ghosh of the Delhi School of Economics as founder donors and Dr. Sri Ram Khanna and Mr Rajan Karanjawala as Trustees.

In 1988 the Dept of Company Affairs Govt. of India accorded recognition to Consumer VOICE under the MRTP Act. The trust has since been granted exemption under section 80-G of the Income Tax Act and, donations made to the Trust are exempt from Tax. However the organization does not accept donations from private enterprise in order to ensure objectivity, or from individuals except when the donor is genuinely committed to espouse the cause of consumer protection.

As one of its first consumer-rights initiative, VOICE filed a suit against the ‘Wills Made for Each Other’ tobacco campaign, as it was monopolistic and discriminated against consumers who did not smoke. VOICE also challenged television manufacturers which were selling colour television sets at a premium to consumers during the Asiad Games.

In 1997, VOICE started to publish Consumer VOICE, a bi-monthly magazine that focused on bringing consumers information on product performance. ‘Voltage Stabilisers’ were one of the first product tests to be published in Consumer VOICE magazine.

The publisher of Consumer VOICE magazine since 1999 it is currently working in close co-ordination with the Dept of Consumer Affairs, Govt of India, on a comparative product testing project. The project aims to test a wide range of products most commonly used by Indian consumers in NABL-accredited laboratories. The test results are then published in Consumer VOICE magazine.

Experts remind one: From the perspective of production technology, it’s recommended the use of biological enzyme toothpaste.
Enzyme toothpaste, with anti-inflammatory, repairing organizations and other unique features, is a truly interring stains bleaching, removing plaque and solving the problem of oral toothpaste. Compared to those chemicals toothpaste, application of biotechnology to the production of toothpaste is the safest and healthiest.
Experts remind two: From the perspective of usage, it’s recommended a regular replacement.
Using the same toothpaste for a long-term, some certain harmful oral bacteria resistance will result physiological tolerance and resistance, so that the role of oral health and sterilization of toothpaste would be lost. The experts recommended that: “In order to protect the oral health, the type of toothpaste should be changed frequently; ordinary type and effectiveness of type should be cross-use.” For the use of toothpaste, preferably about 3 months for a new toothpaste. There are several advantages of alternate use of toothpaste, that is, this will not only help prevent oral bacteria producing the main ingredient of certain herbs to affect the control effect, but also to avoid the excessive intake of the body resulted from the repeated use of certain drugs.
Experts remind three: From the perspective of using method, it’s recommended “dry brush”.
According to different types of different brands, the use of toothpaste will also have different requirements. Dry brush is one of more scientific methods. Some of toothpastes will be particularly marked instructions in the packaging: Squeezing the toothpaste on toothbrush, “dry brush” without water for 3 to 5 minutes. will help bacteriolytic agent causes the desired effect. Although many people feel unsuited to this method, but it is tested in practice to be the most appropriate. Of course, different toothpaste fit different methods. Consumers should give a treatment differently.
Experts remind four: the right choice of toothbrushes
There are diverse types of toothbrushes, it should be based on their age and oral status to choose different toothbrush. Choose unsuitable toothbrush, tooth will not be cleaned, so as to result in dental caries and periodontal disease, and sometimes damage gum and periodontal tissue. Toothbrushes are divided into generic type and specific type. No matter what kind of toothbrush, wool yarn bending recovery rate should be greater than or equal to 40%. The people who are swollen gums, easy bleeding and the root exposed, should try to select soft-hair brush. Hardness of gums is weaker than the crown, soft hair can reduce the abrasion to the gums. The people whose gap of teeth increases or the final one tooth behind difficult to clean could choose specific type toothbrush. Hair bundles of toothbrush head can be long, brush head can be slightly narrower. This can easily clear the accumulation of food between the teeth. To the people who wear fixed teeth device, generally use the V-shaped or U-shaped specific type toothbrush.
