One of the best tactics that has helped me to cure my breath. I have made it a habit and practice to brush my teeth regularly after every meal. I take a fair amount of time in cleaning my gums and tongue which are core sources of flood to get struck and then decay and result in terrible breath.

c) Drink a lot of water for natural cure for your bad breath:

d) Increase you Tea intake:

Tea preferably black tea will help in fighting bad odor. Black tea helps in reducing bad breath up to 40%. So my advice is that you prefer black tea over green tea which will prove to be more effective in curing bad breath.

e) Use Mouth Wash:

In the market, you will find mouth washes having alcohol base which is not at all advisable as it increases the bacteria which generates foul smell in your mouth. Try to get some mouth wash which is alcohol free.

Homoeopathic Remedies for Bad Breath

Homoeopathic Remedies for Bad Breath

Offenssive smell from the mouth is a common complaint in the day to day medical practice. It mainly affects those who mingle with others very closely. Bad breath is noticed mainly by the friends & family members or some times person himself feel it and come to the doctor. Many badbreathers develop depression which forces them to be away from the society which in turn hampers their activities.

The protein in the food debris are degraded by the anaerobic bacteria present in the mouth.Offenssive odor is produced due to release of  some gases like hydrogen sulphide, skatol ect due to bacterial activity.Formation of a thin sticky membrane on the tongue favoures bacterial growth.Bactrera are also seen in the crypts of tonsils ,dental caries, dental pockets ect.Bad breath is associated with oral hygiene, caries, gingivitis, tonsillitis, tonsillar plaques, food habits, water intake ,tobacco chewing, stomach and liver diseases and ect.

Homoeopathy is a system of medicine introduced by a german physician Dr Samuel Hahnemann.Homoeopathy treats the diseased individual as a whole rather than treating diseased parts or organs. The physical, mental, emotional, social spheres of a person is considered for a permanent cure. This system believes that the diseases are caused due to the derangement of vital force which is an invisible power in every individual. In a healthy state the vital force maintains the equilibrium of mind body and soul .During this man will have normal sensations and functions. When the vital force gets affected there will be external manifestations in the form of signs and symptoms. The imbalance in the body functions makes a shelter for forign organisms(bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa ect) and allow them to proliferate &produce so called diseases.Homoeopathy believes thet the real desease comes before the bacteria & viruses, hence the root cause of the disease has to be treated for a permenent cure. The antibacterial and antiviral agents only remove the secondary causes mentioned above.

Diseases are produced by noxious morbific agents called Miasms which are dynamic influences which affect the vital force. There are mainly three miasms PSORA ,SYPHILIS&SYCOSIS. These three causes are accepted by other schools of medicine but called by different names. Psora causes functional disturbances, syphilis cause structural changes in the form of destructions and sycosis causes changes in the form of overgrowth. These three miasms can act individually or in combined form producing different disease conditions.

To treat bad breath with homoeopathic medicine is easy if correct remedy in suitable dose is given. In the homoeopathic medical repertory by Dr Robin Murphy there are 140 homoeopathic drugs mentioned for bad breath. So just giving one drug for bad breath may not give good result. To come to a correct remedial diagnosis we should have the symptomatology of the person .It is the total symptoms of a person which includes mental generals, physical generals, particular symptoms ect.Bad breath is considered as a physical general symptom .Eventhough it comes only from a part of the body it affects the whole individual.

Symptoms related with appetite, thirst, bowels ect are included in physical generals.
All signs and symptoms (mental&physical)of the person is taken in detail.Knowledge about past illneses, family history of diseases, food & bowel habits, relation to climatic changes and constitution ect are noted down in a systematic order.

Mental symptoms:

example: fear,anxiety,depression,anger,jealousy and ect….

Physical symptoms:

example: Body makeup, appetite, thirst, desires, aversions, bowels, urination, sleep, taste, nature of smell, discharges any abnormal sensations like pain, burning ,climatic changes, thermal relations, and ect….

Peculiar uncommon symptoms:

This is the speciality of homoeopathic system of medicine. For the selection of a suitable remedy these symptoms are very important dot common symptoms which are seen almost in all patients are least important.

particular/local signs&symptoms:

This include signs &symptoms related to body parts &organs.

example: Coating on the tongue, nature of mucus membrane of  oral cavity, tonsils, gums, teeth, ulcers, discolourations ect are considered here.

Systemic & general physical examination:-

Bad breath can be due to various systemic and disorders.Hence all systems ( respiratory system ,digestive system, nervous system, cardio vascular system and ect )and parts from head to foot should be examined.

provisional disease diagnosis;  Here probable diseases are diagnosed. In homoeopathy disease diagnosis is not that much important for the selection of a  remedy, but needed for general management and to know the prognosis.

Investigations:

This includes lab investigations and other methods to find  out any other major illnesses.

Final disease diagnosis:

After doing all investigations the disease is diagnosed.

Remedial diagnosis:

This is the most importnant part as far as homoeopathy is concerned. For this the selected symptoms are arranged in a systematic order on the basis of importance.
symptoms are analysed to find out the importance of each symptom for the selection of a remedy.Remedies are selected on the basis of similarity.[the basic principle of homoeopathy is 'similia similibus curenter' means like cures like.A medicine which can produce some symptoms in a healthy man can be used as a remedy to trea the similar symptoms in a diseased person. Each homoeopathic drug is proved on healthy human beings and the symptoms collected by this process(drug proving) is written in meteria medica.]

Suitable remedies are diagnosed by a process called repertorisation. Here books called repertories are used. Repertory is the index of symptoms of materia medica(books which  contain the symptoms of drugs).Nowadays computer softwares are used for repertorisalion.By this process we will get the remedies covering  maximum important symptom of the patient.

Amoung this group of remedies  the most suitable remedy is selected by referring various books and history of the patient..The selected medicine is given in suitable potency & dose.

ANTI MIASMATIC TREATMENT:

The root cause of disease is miasms which should be eradicated using suitable anti miasmatic drugs.Every drug can eradicate the miasm if there is symptom similarity.there are anti psoric drugs, anti syphilitic drugs and anti sycotic drugs. After diagnosing the miasm suitable anti miasmatic drug has to be given to complete the cure.

[In homoeopathy medicines are prepared from different sources like minerals, plants, animals, toxins, diseased parts ect. Medicines are prepared from these substances by a special process called potentisation. Here the soluble  substances are potentised by diluting with spirit and insoluble substances by grinding with sugar of milk. The crude drug substance is first mixed with a calculated quantity of spirit and water and kept for few days .From this mixture extract is taken and is called mother tincture(denoted as Q).From this mother tincture dilutions are prepared by potentisation.Potentisation is a mathematical process by which the quantity of original drug substance reduces but medicinal power increases. Depending upon the ratio of quantity of drug substance and vehicle(spirit or sugar of milk)there are different scales for this process. Each scale has got different potencies which indicate power of medicine.Example in decimal scale 3x,6x.12x ect.in centisimal scale there is 30c,200c ect,in LM poteny there are 0/1,0/2,0/3 ect.potency is written after the name of every medicine]

Same medicine is available in different potencies. Suitable potency is selected according to so many facters like sevearity, depth of disease, condition of the patient ,nature of disease ,type of symptoms, age of patient and ect.

Tips for Combating Bad Breath

Tips for Combating Bad Breath

There are many things that can contribute to bad breath, formally known as halitosis. The most common contributor is poor oral hygiene. Many people have never learned good oral hygiene techniques. This is a daily habit that should have been adapted at the age of 3! There is no place in our society for those who don’t brush your teeth. Once this daily maintenance is out of the way it is then time to consider other alternatives for battling bad breath, to include washes, mints, and sprays.

Millions of individuals suffer with embarrassing bad breath. In spite of this, bad breath can be virtually wiped out with proper understanding and proper dental care! Halitosis usually starts from one of two sources: certain foods we eat or bacteria in our mouths that feed on left over food. There are a lot of bacteria in the mouth and it smells bad. Our mouths are warm and wet therefore a very attractive home for bacteria to grow. There are certain foods that we eat (such as garlic and cabbage), which contain sulfur compounds. When these compounds are released they cause bad breath fairly quickly have the foods have been digested. The sulfur compounds are then taken from the digestive system into the bloodstream and carried to the lungs. Once here they are emitted by the lungs into the air that we exhale, thus giving us halitosis!

A major advancement in the treatment of halitosis was the finding that odor-causing bacteria actually reside on the tongue. As much as 50% of the bacteria located in the mouth can be found here! Think of the tongue as a plush velvet carpet in which bacteria can escape when it sees the toothbrush or dental floss. There are a lot of countries that use an instrument called a tongue scraper to clean the tongue. This device is used to gently clean the tongue to eliminate bacteria. This very simple procedure can greatly improve the smell of your breath by scraping that whitish-yellow coating off your tongue.

People often tackle chronic bad breath using mints, sprays and more often….mouthwash. Recent studies have shown that these alternatives temporarily mask the odor of bad breath. Each of these “breath improvers” work in their own special way, and have both positive and negative aspects. Mints are generally easy to use, discreet, and work about as well as anything… depending on the brand you buy. Sprays typically come in tiny little aerosol cans, and are sprayed directly into the mouth when needed. Using a mouthwash daily can also help fight cavities, gingivitis, tartar buildup on your teeth.

Most mouthwashes, however, contain alcohol which can actually make the situation worse by drying out the mouth, creating a more hospitable environment for odor causing bacteria. A new breed of mouthwashes containing chlorine dioxide are very effective at combating bad breath. These mouthwashes do not mask bad breath odor like conventional mouth washes. Mouth wash is more of a preventative tool than a regular solution for oral hygiene upkeep.

By far the best solution for bad breath (halitosis) is proper and daily dental hygiene. If your not able to brush after every meal then try brushing at least twice a day with a toothpaste that contains fluoride. Brushing using an up-and-down motion instead of a rather than brushing from side-to-side. Also, using an angled toothbrush is preferred as it can be hard to reach those back teeth. Your ultimate goal when brushing and flossing is to (1) remove much of the bacteria in the mouth, (2) remove the layer of plaque, food debris, and dead cells and finally (3) to eliminate the leftover food particles which bacteria use to create odor.

Treating Bad Breath or Halitosis With Lifestyle and Diet Changes

Treating Bad Breath or Halitosis With Lifestyle and Diet Changes

Bad breath or halitosis is a condition that almost everyone suffers from now and then. Luckily for most people its only for a short time. Many times it only lasts until they brush their teeth, use mouthwash, chew some gum or eat a breath mint. For others it’s an ongoing problem they just can’t seem to cure. The information here will help many of those people find a permanent cure for their halitosis using mostly lifestyle and diet changes along with natural treatments.

There are two main types of bad breath.

The first is called transient bad breath or halitosis and is a temporary condition caused by the food you eat (garlic or onions for example, smoking, dry mouth or not practicing good oral hygiene. Stephen Z. Wolner, a dentist in private practice in New York City says that a clean tongue will go a long ways towards warding off bad breath. Usually transient bad breath can be cured fairly quickly by brushing your teeth, chewing gum, using a mouth wash, eating parsley, gargling with salt water and a number of other methods.

The second type is chronic halitosis or bad breath which is worse than transient bad breath and has been estimated to affect up to 25% of the population. This serious condition is primarily caused by excess oral bacteria with the main cause of chronic halitosis being the streptococcus mutans bacteria. Another cause of chronic bad breath could be cavities in your teeth or even periodontis, says Wolner.

Although most bad breath is caused by bacteria in the mouth sometimes its caused by some type of disease in your body and even some of the medicines you taking will also cause bad breath. Luckily most bad breath problems can be cured by changing your lifestyle or diet.

Some common causes of bad breath are: foods such as garlic, onions or meat, too much coffee or alcohol, smoking, some medicines, not drinking enough water, bad teeth, too much protein or fat in your diet, bacteria on back of your tongue, braces or dentures, etc.

Tips to cure your bad breath or halitosis

1. Stop drinking alcohol or cut back on it, as it dries out the mouth. Drink water with your alcohol drinks.

2. Quit smoking or using tobacco products or at least cut down your usage.

3. Drink plenty of water to hydrate your mouth as well as the body.

4. Think about switching to tea from coffee. There are a number of reasons to drink green tea and sweet breath seems to be one of them.

5. Do more exercising and calorie cutting to lose weight instead of using high protein/low carbs diets.

6. Cut back on the sugar as bacteria feeds on it and ti also to lessen chances of tooth decay.

7. Brush your teeth at least twice a day along with flossing.

8. Chew sugarless gum (especially the cinnamon flavor) to stimulate saliva.

9. Clean your tongue and inside of mouth with a soft toothbrush dipped in mouth wash.

10. Eat more fruits and vegetables and less meat.

11. Eat a guava. One that’s still green is usually recommended but a ripe one is also beneficial.

12. Brush your teeth and tongue with baking soda.

13. Use a water pick to clean your teeth.

14. Use hydrogen peroxide as a mouth wash. Be careful not to swallow any.

15. Drink fruit or vegetable juices especially tomato and pineapple juices.

16. Chew parsley after meals especially when you go out to eat as some is usually used for garnish

17. Gargle with salt water.

18. If you can’t brush your teeth after a meal at least swish some water around in your mouth.

19. Your low carb diet may also be a factor in your bad breath. A slice of bread may help.

20. Chew cloves, cinnamon or similar spices. Boiling them will also make a good mouthwash.

These 20 tips are just the ones that I know about and have used, from people I’ve talked to and what I’ve read about. Ask others what they use and you’ll undoubtedly come up with a lot more of them.

If you try all the above suggestions and you still have bad breath or halitosis you might want to see your dentist or family doctor to see if something more serious is causing your problem. Before you go to the doctor you might want to get a second opinion because “A large proportion of people who think they’re social pariahs with terrible breath don’t have bad breath at all,” says Wolner.

An Oral Hygiene Lesson On Bad Breath

An Oral Hygiene Lesson On Bad Breath

Bad breath is a health problem that occur in many of us, due to many reasons and has a specific characteristic that causes such a disturbing smell. But what causes bad breath? On the tongue there is a bio film which contains anaerobic bacteria. The proteins from the food we eat are decomposed by these bacteria producing disturbing gases such as hydrogen sulfide.

Most of us have bad breath in the morning, but that issue can be prevented by proper oral hygiene. But proper oral hygiene does not always remove these odors, when it is caused by other reasons, like some general diseases. You have to run some tests in order to find out what causes the bad breath and then you will have to treat it in consequence. If you can follow some simple steps you can prevent or reduce the bad breath in your mouth. So here they are:

1. Oral hygiene
We must keep in mind that every time we eat we are exposed to the bacteria in our mouth. After we eat we have to brush our teeth or at least gargle with warm water. The brushing though is essential and at least twice a day: in the morning ( for beauty, as it is said ) and in the evening ( for the health ).

2. How do we brush our teeth?
You do not have to brush your teeth after every meal: it can damage the enamel. You just have to brush normally, paying attention to the direction of brushing You should brush your upper teeth in a downward direction and the lower ones in the upward direction, followed by the brushing of the crown of the teeth ( In anterior and posterior direction ). This must be applied to both inner and outer surfaces, as well as to upper and lower set of teeth. You should choose a dental brush which has smooth but hard enough bristles in order to clean effectively the food remains between the teeth.

3. Cleaning of our tongue
The tongue can be cleaned with a tongue cleaner. In the morning we can see a white or yellowish layer on the tongue and it can be removed with tongue cleaner but ensure that you do it gently, not to hurt the taste buds.

4. Tooth picks
We can use the tooth pick after every meal, especially after eating meat or fish. It is a small strip of plastic or wood with pointed ends and we can successfully use it to remove food remains between the teeth, but carefully, not to hurt the gums.

5. Gargling
Gargling is very effective after every meal, with warm water. You can find in all stores a variety of mouth wash, with different flavors or you can make your own mouth wash from water and common salt. Both help you get rid of the bad breath.

6. Food can influence our breath
What we eat is representative for our bad breath. Some food, like meat, milk, eggs contain proteins that in reaction with the bacteria from the tongue can produce bad breath. Other food items have themselves an unpleasant smell and, by eating them, we can have disturbing breath when speaking to other people. If we do not clean properly our teeth in between the gaps, the food remains will soon get an unpleasant odor. Regular meals and proper cleaning can prevent bad breath.

7. Proper hydration with water
The quantity of water that we drink also influences bad breath. But how do we relate these things? According to the quantity of water consumed depends on the saliva secretion. If the quantity of saliva is enough to keep the mouth moist, the bacteria will be reduced. If we do not drink enough water, the saliva will not be enough, causing the dryness of the mouth proper to the development of bacteria who gives us the bad breath.

8. Natural or artificial mouth fresheners?
We can choose from a large variety of mouth fresheners, both artificial and natural. It is better that you use some natural mouth fresheners because they are good for your general health and bad breath ( citrus fruits, apples, parsley ). If you do not have any natural mouth refreshments there are always the chewing gums and artificial mouth washes, which you can find in every store, but use them carefully because an intensive use of chewing gum can lead to other health complications.

If these simple tips do not work, you should take serious action in order to find out what causes your bad breath and how you can rid it. A simple visit to the doctor can clarify the alternative reasons that can cause bad breath as there are diseases which can have as a symptom bad breath ( diseases like diabetes, fevers, gastric disorders, liver diseases ). So, with simple bad breath can open doors to other health problems you might have and solve them as soon as possible. Of course, removing the cause will lead to the removal of this unpleasant effect.

If the cause of bad breath is not that serious and is a result of an infection you can treat it with the products of modern medicine such as antibiotics, anti viral, anti fungal drugs, steroids ( if the cause is a chronic or auto immune inflammatory conditions ), or even tablets that stimulate the production of the saliva.

A visit to your dentist twice a year can prevent also and cure any dental and mouth related problems. The dentist can clean your teeth by removing the tartar and the dental plaques; he will fill in the caries, which are one of the main factors that causes bad breath, with synthetic materials; eventually he will recommend a treatment for any pulp cavity problems caused by caries. If the tooth is seriously affected by the caries, it is better to extract it and replace it with a dental implant. A more serious problem is the tonsillitis, a disease that can cause bad breath by the discharges and release of pasty amalgam of materials from the caves of tonsils. This disease can be stopped through tonsillectomy ( the removal of tonsils ).

Bad Breath Solutions That Can Save Your Life

Bad Breath Solutions That Can Save Your Life

Bad breath solutions are important to pay attention to whenever you pass them, because bad breath is critical to good health. Bad breath could be an indication of a very serious underlying condition such as obesity, hypercholesterolemia, cardiovascular disease and diabetes to name a few. That’s why it is imperative that you bring you personal daily dental care up to code.

First and foremost, you need to start taking a travel toothbrush and travel sized tube of toothpaste to work or school. You want to do this because you need to start brushing after every meal and snack throughout the day, so that when you get home, and you have to do that final closing out full brushing, you don’t have such a huge workload to get through.
When you brush during the day, away from home, if you use an electric toothbrush at home, it isn’t at all necessary to do this sort of full scale brushing away from home. All that’s needed is an abbreviate toothbrush and a travel sized tube of toothpaste. Make sure to do the full rinsing with tap water after brushing, and this should suffice. Whenever you complete either a full or half brushing, make sure to do a thorough rinsing.

See, a huge issue today is the negative effects of digesting toothpaste and mouth wash. You want to digest and swallow the least amount of this as you possibly can, less than 0.001% of the total toothpaste used if you can. Especially after using an antiseptic mouth wash you absolutely must, it is imperative, to rinse with tap water-preferably cool or cold-in order to rinse out any leftover antiseptic.

Antiseptic is great for sterilizing, but you never really want your mouth to be completely sterilized. This could actually kill vital tissue in your mouth. And although bacterial infection is a huge threat to you and your body’s overall health, you never want to be absolutely and completely bacteria free. Your mouth needs bacteria to keep saliva triggers alive and stimulated.

When you do use an antiseptic, especially if you’re younger or tending to a child, you want to dilute the antiseptic mouth wash. Do about 1:1 mixture of mouth wash to tap water. After any brushing session involving an antiseptic, make sure to thoroughly rinse with tap water before you finish. You should never just rinse with mouth wash and leave it at that; doing that does more harm than good. Not only do you swallow more of the mouth wash, but you end up stimulating bacterial growth, ’cause at first it retreats because of the solution, but then it fights back; and when it does, since you didn’t bother to brush, it has the resources to launch a full scale growth attack on your mouth, putting you into a worse situation than you had to begin with.

And you absolutely need to floss; even when you don’t have food stuck your mouth. The reason why you need to do this is because your gums are blood vessel rich tissue that need to be stimulated.

Halitosis – the Dragon Breath Blues

Halitosis – the Dragon Breath Blues

An estimated 35 per cent of the world’s populations suffer from halitosis, more commonly known as chronic bad breath.

Bad Breath or also known as Dragon Breath is an embarrassing problem and many of us would have suffered from it at some point in our lives and affects millions of people everyday. Just because bad breath is a common problem, it doesn’t mean you have to live with it.

Bad breath occurs due to lots of reason in the mouth and does not come from the stomach.

Strong food such as garlic and onions absorbed into the bloodstream and the odors are expelled by the lungs causing a bad breath temporarily which can be easily remove by taking a peppermint candy, sugarless gum or a sprig of parsley.

Bad breath can also be caused by what youâ??re NOT eating!

Bad Breath is usually caused by the breakdown of proteins by bacteria somewhere in the mouth which is probably the dirtiest place in the human body. Bad breath is not contagious, meaning one cannot catch it from someone else.

Persistent bad breath is usually caused by bits of food left on your gums, teeth and tongue. Germs and bacteria feast on this free lunch coat your teeth, gums and tend to get into the grooves and fissures on the tongue, producing lots of smelly and nasty gas which resulting a bad smell (Volatile Sulfur Compound = VSC).

Caffeine, smoking and alcohol increase the production of acid in the mouth, allowing VSC-producing bacteria to thrive. VSC produced by bacteria in the oral cavity can survive with little or no oxygen.

Saliva has high oxygen content, and oxygen helps to neutralize VSC production and keeps halitosis away. Hence to avoid bad dragon breath, it is essential to make sure you do not have a dry mouth. In fact, this is one of the reasons why drooling babies do not have bad breath.

According to Dr. Richard Price of American Dental Association, â??Ninety percent of bad breath comes from bacteria in the mouth.â? The other 10 percent could be from sinus problems, gastrointestinal issues, the Atkins diet (the high protein diet can lead to a metabolic imbalance called ketosis) and, in rare cases, bad breath can be tie in to serious medical problems such as a respiratory infection, chronic sinusitis, postnasal drip, chronic bronchitis, diabetes, gastrointestinal disturbance and liver or kidney ailment. On the other hand, he also emphasizes that itâ??s unlikely that bad breath is the first sign of serious illness.

The bacteria on our teeth and gum (plaque) also cause gum disease and dental decay (periodontal disease). One of the warning signs of gum disease is you having always bad breath or funny bad taste in your mouth. Approximately 75% of American adults have some form of gum disease â?? most of them unaware they have it as it is painless and silent in its early stages.

Dental studies indicate that about  85 percent of those with persistent bad breath, also known as halitosis have a dental problem. So if you suffer from chronic bad breath, you should visit your dentist. Your dentist might be able to see the problem and treat it during your regular check-ups.

The gum disease has been linked to the development of heart disease, respiratory ailments, and the delivery of pre-term low birth weight babies.  If you have an open blood vessel from bleeding gums, bacteria will gain entry to your bloodstream.

When bacteria get into the bloodstream they encounter tiny fragments called platelets that clot blood when you get a cut. By sticking to the platelets bacteria cause them to clot inside the blood vessel, partially blocking it. This prevents the blood flow back to the heart and we run the risk of suffering a heart attack.” said Dr Steve Kerrigan of the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland.

Fortunately, there are things we can do to help prevent unpleasant odors on our breath. A clean mouth and good dental hygiene will make you more immune to infection, having a healthy smile and reducing bad breath. Toothpaste is a paste used with a toothbrush. It is used to promote oral hygiene and aid to remove dental plaque and food from the teeth. Fluoride is the most active ingredient in toothpaste and it can prevent cavities. It also eliminates bad breath or halitosis and gum disease.

The earliest known reference to toothpaste is in a manuscript from Egypt in the 4th century A.D. that prescribes a mixture of iris flowers. But it did not come into general use until the 19th century.
